SUMMARY:The Po' Ramblin' Boys
DESCRIPTION:Every so often a band comes around that knocks everybody’s socks off and gets people talking. I’d bet good money that you’re gonna really enjoy them\, but I don’t want to take your money. Use it to listen to the PRB. I‘m putting my money on them. \n-Jim Lauderdale \nAt a time when most people feel constantly distracted by technology and barraged by the news\, authenticity and straightforward honesty are paramount. There’s something about the music of The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys that cuts right through the noise of the world and speaks plainly to the soul. Formed in the Smoky Mountains\, The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys are at once exactly what you would expect and not at all what you would expect from a tattooed East Tennessee Bluegrass outfit. No strangers to hard work\, the boys are as much at home riding in their restored Eagle tour bus as they are crawling underneath to fix it when it needs maintenance. But they take pride in being ambassadors of their genre\, and the group has brought their music from rural bluegrass festival stages to the rock clubs of Europe\, and even the GRAMMY Red Carpet\, with stunning results. “I think to a certain extent everyone is just craving music that they can feel\, and any music that feels real will reach any audience” says CJ Lewandowski\, the groups founder\, “We want to put bluegrass right where it’s least expected”. Perhaps this mindset is why the group earned the title of Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2018 IBMA Awards. \nIn 2014\, Lewandowski was working at Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery in Sevierville\, TN when the band first formed. The distillery employed musicians to play for visitors seven days a week\, and Lewandowski\, who primarily plays Mandolin and sings\, was occasionally hired to fill in when the entertainment didn’t show. Eventually\, the distillery approached him about forming a band for a full time slot\, so he reached out to long time music friends Jereme Brown\, who plays banjo for the group\, and Josh Rinkel\, who plays guitar. “Jereme was doing a lot of welding work at that time\, and Josh was running a sign company”\, says Lewandowski\, “I think we were all ready to do something new\, something with our music but we didn’t know when or how”. Bassist Jasper Lorentzen happened to be working in the tasting room at the distillery\, and he turned out to be the perfect addition to the band. The four friends played multiple times a week for a year and half\, honing their band sound\, meanwhile word was spreading about their music. “The first gig we played out of town was a festival in Alberta\, Canada\, and a week later we went on a two week tour of Europe\, it was crazy”\, says Lewandowski. In 2020\, the finishing touch\, the cherry on top if you will\, was added to the quartet. Laura Orshaw\, a seasoned fiddle player and singer joined the Boys after contributing her talents to the Sound Biscuit Productions’ full Gospel album\, “God’s Love is So Divine” and “Toils\, Tears\, & Trouble.” On the addition C.J. exclaims “after 5 1/2 together as a four piece\, we needed that perfect fit that would not only fit us on stage and recording\, but a personality that would add to the band and be a part of the family we have created. Laura was that person and we can’t think of anyone else that fits our music and our family better than her. The show has benefitted so much from Laura and the chemistry we have between the now 5 of us.” \nMaterial for the group’s freshman Rounder Records album “Toil\, Tears & Teouble\,” was a combination of original songs and old numbers that honor the group’s mentors and bluegrass heroes. “We love to dig up old songs that haven’t been heard in years and bring them back into the spotlight”\, explains Lewandowski. In fact\, two of those gems on the Rounder album\, “Next Train South” and “Hickory\, Walnut & Pine\,” were nominated for IBMA Song of the Year along with “Next Train South” taking the trophy for SPBGMA same category in 2020. The momentum of “Toil\, Tears & Trouble” has continued to grow with the band’s first GRAMMY Nomination for Best Bluegrass Album.\nThe Po’ Ramblin’ Boys passion for bluegrass is as clear as it is contagious. With a heavy touring schedule across the United States and Europe and recent Grammy Nomination with Rounder Records\, the Boys are well on their way to becoming the quintessential bluegrass band of their generation. Despite all of their recent success\, they maintain a humble perspective. “Bluegrass has left such a mark on us that we feel like we owe something back to the music”\, says Lewandowski. “We want to do something for the music to show our appreciation… There’s no telling what could have happened to us\, what we would have become if we hadn’t found this music. It’s gotten us through a lot\, the good and the bad. When I think about all of the damn medications that I didn’t have to take because I had music to turn to. We didn’t have to go to the doctor and pay for something to make us feel better\, because we had this music\, so we really want to honor it by bringing it out of the shadows and onto new stages and wider audiences. Because we know that if we can bring Bluegrass to new folks\, those folks will come with us and support the bluegrass community.” \n“Loved having the guys in studio… great live performance…they’re the real deal” ! \n– Charlie Mattos producer/cohost Coffee\, Country & Cody \n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:The French Family Band
DESCRIPTION:Country music just sounds better when a family sings it. That’s where it all began: mothers\, fathers\, grandparents\, aunts\, uncles\, and cousins\, all huddled together\, picking and singing on a porch in the twilight. That’s why when The French Family launch into the bittersweet ache of a classic or the startling tenderness of one of their self-penned original songs\, the hairs on country music loving necks stand up\, and we instinctively––sometimes tearfully––recognize this father\, mother\, and son as the real thing. Touring over the last almost 20 years as Camille and Stuie\, the husband-and-wife duo became beloved in Australia. Stuie is a monster player with chops that sublimely meld the virtuosity and instinct of jazz with the clear tone and restraint of American hillbilly roots music. Camille holds a once-in-a-generation voice: somehow both crisply expressive and immeasurably rich and smooth\, she can sit back to soothe in a pocket before jumping out to thrill. Now based in Nashville and with the addition of middle son Sonny on stage\, The French Family is acclimating to life stateside––deep roots in tow. “I love being able to share our family music with people\,” says Camille. “I think people crave it. They come up and tell me how much they love seeing the love among our family and what we do––and I love being able to share that with everybody.” \nStuie agrees\, adding\, “We hope our music takes people back to a time when the essence of country music was twangy guitars\, honest songs\, and vocals that tear your heart out.” \nDoors open at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm. All tickets here are first come\, first served at the door. SUMMARY:Tray Wellington
DESCRIPTION:Growing up in western North Carolina’s Ashe County\, Trajan “Tray” Wellington heard a lot of music — and from the first time he heard the banjo as a young teen\, he was\, he says\, “hooked.” Even before he graduated from East Tennessee State University’s renowned Bluegrass\, Old-Time and Country program\, Wellington had earned acclaim as the banjo player with Cane Mill Road\, performing across the country and winning a 2019 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year award while the group took Momentum Band of the Year honors. \nA well-received\, independently released 2020 EP under his own name\, the creation of his Tray Wellington Band and signing with Mountain Home Music Company that same year marked Wellington’s decision to make his own path going forward. As he began releasing singles in advance of his full-length debut\, Black Banjo\, Wellington continued to garner attention\, leading banjo workshops at the prestigious Merlefest and Gray Fox festivals; performing on the IBMA’s 2020 World of Bluegrass Main Stage and acting as host for the Momentum Awards ceremony; gaining coverage in publications like No Depression\, The Bluegrass Situation and Folk Alley; and appearing on David Holt’s PBS NC series\, being interviewed by Rhiannon Giddens for a BBC documentary series and by W. Kamau Bell for his CNN series\, United Shades of America. Upon its release in May\, 2022\, Black Banjo earned a glowing review in the Wall Street Journal that concluded: “This is a record that breaks right through subgenre boundaries. If bluegrass is about spotlighting virtuosos\, here’s a new one people will be checking in on for some time to come.” \n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:Junior Brown
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a very special night with the legendary\, Junior Brown! \n\nDoors open at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm. \nAll tickets here are first come\, first served at the door. If you are in the area\, plan to come down and enjoy live music with a pizza and a beer (or two!) \n\n\n\n\nWith his unique voice\, more unique song writing\, and even more unique double necked “Guit-Steel” guitar\, there has absolutely never been ANYONE like Junior Brown. He’s the American Original. Born in 1952 in Cottonwood\, Arizona\, Junior Brown showed an affinity for music at an early age when the family moved to a rural area of Indiana near Kirksville. In the following years\, Junior began to experience Country music and remembers it as “growing up out of the ground like the crops – it was everywhere; coming out of cars\, houses\, gas stations and stores like the soundtrack of a story\, but Country music programs on TV hadn’t really come along much yet; not until the late fifties.” Discovering a guitar in his grandparent’s attic\, he spent the next several years woodshedding with records and the radio. Junior was also able to tap into music he couldn’t hear at home which older\, college aged kids were listening to. This was possible due to his father’s employment at small campuses throughout the next decade as the family moved twice again. As a young boy he was able to experience the thrill of performing before live audiences\, at parties\, school functions even singing and playing guitar for five thousand Boy Scouts at an Andrews Air Force Base jamboree; then while still a teenager\, getting the chance to sit in with Rock and Roll pioneer\, Bo Diddley. Armed with this broad spectrum of influences\, he began to develop a storehouse of musical chops. \nEarly on\, Junior realized he had to keep his interest in Country music a secret; “it was like a secret friend I carried around\, being careful not to tell anyone (especially girls) about my love for it because I thought they would laugh at me.” It wasn’t until the late 1960’s that Junior Brown would proudly explore the passion for the music he had loved since his early childhood in Indiana. With many prominent figures as his inspiration (Country legends\, some who he would work with years later)\, he spent his nights in small clubs across the southwest. “I played more nights in honkytonks during the Seventies and Eighties than most musicians will see in a lifetime… I did so many years of that\, night after night\, four sets a night\, fifteen minute breaks; I mean after that\, you’ve gotta get good or you gotta get out. The early 1970’s California Country dance club scene was particularly competitive\, but I learned professionalism and stage demeanor which has served me well to this day.” More recently however\, Junior has shown himself to be equally adept at a wide variety of American music styles beyond Country. These include Rock and Roll\, Blues\, Hawaiian\, Bluegrass and Western Swing. \nThere is a dependable consistency in Junior’s writing style (he writes nearly all his material) yet he’s always full of pleasant surprises. Though Junior always knew he could sing and play what he wanted\, he had yet to explore his potential as a songwriter. “I realized no one was going to walk into a club and discover me…so I started hanging out with some songwriters who I’d played some jobs with\, and they showed me how to support myself by writing and publishing.” With his writing coming together by the mid-Eighties\, Brown upgraded his gear in a way that no artist had ever done. Struggling through each show\, going back and forth plugging and unplugging guitar to steel guitar while singing\, he had a dream one night about \n\n\n\n\n\n\nthe two instruments mysteriously melding into one. The result was Brown’s unique invention\, the “Guit-Steel”\, a double necked instrument combining standard guitar with steel guitar. Built by Michael Stevens of Stevens Electric Instruments\, the Guit- Steel allows Junior to switch instruments quickly in mid song while singing. According to Brown\, his guitar and steel guitar playing became more his own around this time\, with less imitation of others and more his own original ideas and licks. This maturation coincided with the development of a completely “Junior Brown” style of songwriting which employs subtle dry wit to some songs – others can be more overtly humorous\, or just plain dead serious; like his playing\, there is a wide range of styles that when combined can only spell Junior Brown. \nIn the early nineties Brow and his band (including wife Tanya Rae) relocated to Texas to the active Austin music scene and landed a weekly gig at the Continental club. Having worked as a sideman for many of the Austin-based acts over the years\, Junior was already well familiar with the town. His unique and entertaining combination of singing\, songwriting\, instrumental and production skills led to a seven record deal with Curb Records that began with “Twelve Shades of Brown” in 1993. He later released two albums on the TelArc label. There were several Grammy nods\, a CMA (Country Music Association) award for “My Wife Thinks You’re Dead”\, move and repeated TV appearances like Letterman\, Conan\, Saturday Night Live\, Austin City Limits\, SpongeBob\, X Files\, Dukes of Hazzard\, Me Myself and Irene\, Tresspass\, Still Breathing\, Blue Colla Comedy Tour 1 and 2\, and more recently\, Better Call Saul. And there were the Ad Campaigns; The Gap\, Lee Jeans and Lipton Tea. As Junior became more well known\, he began to collaborate on projects with some of his heroes. These include a duet with Ralph Stanley for which Junior received a Bluegrass Music Association Award (IBMA)\, a duet and video with Hank Thompson\, as well as duets with video and record collaborations with the Beach Boys\, George Jones\, Leon McAuliffe\, Ray Price\, Leona Williams\, Lynn Morris\, Lynn Morris\, Lloyd Green and Doc Watson. He even played guitar for Bob Wills’ Texas Playboys in a radio commercial. \nJunior is currently finishing up recording on his latest album\, “The American Original”. Release date is slated for mid-summer 2016. Junior’s performance on the promotional song\, “Better Call Saul” was recorded and released both as a video on AMC as well as a flexible 33 1/3rd vinyl record included in the show’s box set from Season One. Junior\, Tanya Rae and the band continue to tear up the highways and no doubt will be appearing in concert near you one of these days. Seeing Junior live is a definite must\, so GUIT WITH IT ’cause he’s THE AMERICAN ORIGINAL! \n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website

After spending a handful of formative years as a member of Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver (and recording some legendary bluegrass music in the process)\, Russell Moore formed IIIrd Tyme Out in 1991 and bluegrass music hasn’t been the same since. IIIrd Tyme Out helped usher in a new era of youthful\, energetic bluegrass and established a unique sound that has lasted well into the 21st century.
