SUMMARY:Ed Snodderly & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Recalling the modern\, esoteric lyricism of Guy Clark and Billy Joe Shaver and the Southern traditions of old-time music and bluegrass\, veteran Americana singer- songwriter-guitar player Ed Snodderly’s new album Chimney Smoke\, (his 10th)\, is a hypnotic\, slow-burning masterpiece of expert songcraft and storytelling. Often wistful and nostalgic\, with unforgettable characters\, indelible memories and a sense of place at its heart\, Chimney Smoke bears the marks of a pugilist’s nimble agility and endurance but occasionally also delivers a knockout blow or two. Case in point: “Gone With Gone and Long Time\,” a dazzling meditation on the stages of grief. “It’s a song about loss as much as it is emphatic about dark\,” Snodderly says of the track\, which features harmony vocals from Hall of Fame songwriter Gretchen Peters. Aided throughout by “the Shoestring Seven\,” a who’s-who of veteran musicians including Shawn Camp\, Steve Conn\, John Gardner\, Steve Hinson\, Gary J. Smith\, Chris Scruggs and Kenny Vaughan\, the album also features singers Amythyst Kiah\, Maura O’Connell\, Malcolm Holcombe and more. \nChimney Smoke had its origins in Snodderly’s desire not only to make the best record possible but in the concept of creating a quintessential “Southern” album\, a chronicle of both his Appalachian roots and his own personal upbringing. The title track “Chimney Smoke” offers a vivid depiction of Appalachian life\, and is one of the prime examples of Snodderly’s gift for bringing memories and a deep sense of place to life with his intimate lyrics. \nTo help add masterful strokes of color\, shade and texture to an already vibrant narrative\, Snodderly enlisted Grammy-nominated producer R.S. Field (Todd Snider\, Shaver\, Justin Townes Earle\, Allison Moorer\, etc.). Another of the notable participants in the recording of Chimney Smoke would also prove one of its most poignant\, as the album was the final project completed by beloved Grammy-winning recording engineer and producer Bil VornDick\, who passed away in July 2022. \nEddie Lynn Snodderly was born and raised in Knoxville\, Tennessee\, to a father who was a Fuller Brush salesman and a mother who was\, in his words\, a “housewife extraordinaire.” Snodderly’s grandfather was a farmer and old-time fiddler\, who\, along with his brother\, won several ribbons at Knoxville-area fiddlers’ conventions in the 1920s and ’30s. Snodderly started playing guitar at age 12\, enamored of the music of the British invasion\, while also absorbing the old-time music played by family members that was simply part of the Snodderly’s homespun DNA. \nIn 1976\, Snodderly co-founded (with friend Joe “Tank” Leach) the now-iconic music venue\, the Down Home Coffeehouse and Pickin’ Parlor in Johnson City\, TN. \nLong known as The Down Home\, it’s an intimate listening room that has played host to countless acts in bluegrass\, folk\, old-time and blues music. Recognized for its eclecticism by numerous publications\, including the New York Times\, the Down Home has also spotlighted everything from theatrical productions\, poetry and story slams\, to political rallies and funerals. “I don’t know if it’s ancestral or all these ghosts that are drifting around here in the mountains\, but it’s a special place\,” Snodderly says\, which\, like his music\, has its deepest roots in his upbringing. “Since I was six years old I’ve always loved having a clubhouse\, building them out in the woods in the middle of a pasture field with a couple of friends\,” says Snodderly. \nSnodderly would continue to mix his life as a traveling musician with running the club\, always looking forward to getting back to the Down Home. Decades before the blending of numerous roots musical styles would give rise to the genre now known as Americana\, a wide array of artists graced the Down Home stage\, including New Grass Revival\, Norman Blake\, John Hartford\, Willie Dixon\, John Lee Hooker\, Queen Ida\, Koko Taylor\, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot and Townes van Zandt\, to name just a few. “It’s always been a juggling act for me between performing\, writing and club-running\, but I’ve been lucky\, and doing it so long that it’s all a part of the act.” Snodderly would go on to immortalize the club in his song “Down Home\,” a spirited talking-blues track from his 2017 album\, Record Shop. \nSince his 1977 debut album\, Sidewalk Shoes\, Snodderly has released LPs on Sugar Hill and other prestigious roots-oriented labels. In addition to his solo work\, he also recorded and performed as the Brother Boys with duet partner Eugene Wolf. Songs that he’s written have been covered by Jerry Douglas\, Sam Bush\, John Cowan\, Missy Raines and others\, and in 2000\, he played a minor role (credited as “Village Idiot”) in the Coen Brothers’ film\, O Brother\, Where Art Thou? The recipient of a 2020 lifetime achievement award from the Southern Region of Folk Alliance 2020 for his contributions to Southern folk music\, Snodderly also has the third verse of his song\, “The Diamond Stream\,” permanently displayed on the Wall of Honor at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. Since 1992 he has been teaching songwriting classes in the Bluegrass\, Old Time\, and Country Music Studies program at East Tennessee State University\, where one of his most high-profile students in recent years\, Amythyst Kiah\, made a lasting impression\, leading to her remarkable vocal contributions to three cuts on the new album. \n“He’s so eccentric and a genius to boot\,” Snodderly says of producer\, R.S. Field. “His mantra was\, ‘Let’s make Americana great again.’” \nWith sparkling lyrics\, mind-expanding wit and down-home wisdom\, that’s exactly what Ed Snodderly’s Chimney Smoke does. \nArtist Website

SUMMARY:Sister Sadie
DESCRIPTION:Originally formed as a pickup band in December of 2012\, Sister Sadie has reached heights beyond any of their dreams. In 2019\, they won their first IBMA award as a band\, named the Vocal Group of the Year. They debuted on the Grand Ole Opry. Their album “Sister Sadie II” was nominated for a GRAMMY. And it’s only picked up steam since then. 2020 brought with it another wave of IBMA Awards: Fiddle Player of the Year for Deanie Richardson\, their second Vocal Group of the Year award\, and their first Entertainer of the Year award—the highest award in all of bluegrass. In 2021\, Sister Sadie was featured in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s American Currents exhibit. The same year\, the band took home a third consecutive IBMA Vocal Group of the Year award\, and new member Jaelee Roberts was awarded the IBMA Momentum Vocalist of the Year award. In 2022\, Gena Britt was recognized as the SPBGMA Banjo Player of the Year and Sister Sadie signed with Mountain Home Records to begin work on their third studio album. And lastly in 2023\, Jaelee Roberts took home the honor of SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist WebsiteFollow on Facebook

SUMMARY:The Po' Ramblin' Boys
DESCRIPTION:Every so often a band comes around that knocks everybody’s socks off and gets people talking. I’d bet good money that you’re gonna really enjoy them\, but I don’t want to take your money. Use it to listen to the PRB. I‘m putting my money on them. \n-Jim Lauderdale \nAt a time when most people feel constantly distracted by technology and barraged by the news\, authenticity and straightforward honesty are paramount. There’s something about the music of The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys that cuts right through the noise of the world and speaks plainly to the soul. Formed in the Smoky Mountains\, The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys are at once exactly what you would expect and not at all what you would expect from a tattooed East Tennessee Bluegrass outfit. No strangers to hard work\, the boys are as much at home riding in their restored Eagle tour bus as they are crawling underneath to fix it when it needs maintenance. But they take pride in being ambassadors of their genre\, and the group has brought their music from rural bluegrass festival stages to the rock clubs of Europe\, and even the GRAMMY Red Carpet\, with stunning results. “I think to a certain extent everyone is just craving music that they can feel\, and any music that feels real will reach any audience” says CJ Lewandowski\, the groups founder\, “We want to put bluegrass right where it’s least expected”. Perhaps this mindset is why the group earned the title of Emerging Artist of the Year at the 2018 IBMA Awards. \nIn 2014\, Lewandowski was working at Ole Smoky Moonshine Distillery in Sevierville\, TN when the band first formed. The distillery employed musicians to play for visitors seven days a week\, and Lewandowski\, who primarily plays Mandolin and sings\, was occasionally hired to fill in when the entertainment didn’t show. Eventually\, the distillery approached him about forming a band for a full time slot\, so he reached out to long time music friends Jereme Brown\, who plays banjo for the group\, and Josh Rinkel\, who plays guitar. “Jereme was doing a lot of welding work at that time\, and Josh was running a sign company”\, says Lewandowski\, “I think we were all ready to do something new\, something with our music but we didn’t know when or how”. Bassist Jasper Lorentzen happened to be working in the tasting room at the distillery\, and he turned out to be the perfect addition to the band. The four friends played multiple times a week for a year and half\, honing their band sound\, meanwhile word was spreading about their music. “The first gig we played out of town was a festival in Alberta\, Canada\, and a week later we went on a two week tour of Europe\, it was crazy”\, says Lewandowski. In 2020\, the finishing touch\, the cherry on top if you will\, was added to the quartet. Laura Orshaw\, a seasoned fiddle player and singer joined the Boys after contributing her talents to the Sound Biscuit Productions’ full Gospel album\, “God’s Love is So Divine” and “Toils\, Tears\, & Trouble.” On the addition C.J. exclaims “after 5 1/2 together as a four piece\, we needed that perfect fit that would not only fit us on stage and recording\, but a personality that would add to the band and be a part of the family we have created. Laura was that person and we can’t think of anyone else that fits our music and our family better than her. The show has benefitted so much from Laura and the chemistry we have between the now 5 of us.” \nMaterial for the group’s freshman Rounder Records album “Toil\, Tears & Teouble\,” was a combination of original songs and old numbers that honor the group’s mentors and bluegrass heroes. “We love to dig up old songs that haven’t been heard in years and bring them back into the spotlight”\, explains Lewandowski. In fact\, two of those gems on the Rounder album\, “Next Train South” and “Hickory\, Walnut & Pine\,” were nominated for IBMA Song of the Year along with “Next Train South” taking the trophy for SPBGMA same category in 2020. The momentum of “Toil\, Tears & Trouble” has continued to grow with the band’s first GRAMMY Nomination for Best Bluegrass Album.\nThe Po’ Ramblin’ Boys passion for bluegrass is as clear as it is contagious. With a heavy touring schedule across the United States and Europe and recent Grammy Nomination with Rounder Records\, the Boys are well on their way to becoming the quintessential bluegrass band of their generation. Despite all of their recent success\, they maintain a humble perspective. “Bluegrass has left such a mark on us that we feel like we owe something back to the music”\, says Lewandowski. “We want to do something for the music to show our appreciation… There’s no telling what could have happened to us\, what we would have become if we hadn’t found this music. It’s gotten us through a lot\, the good and the bad. When I think about all of the damn medications that I didn’t have to take because I had music to turn to. We didn’t have to go to the doctor and pay for something to make us feel better\, because we had this music\, so we really want to honor it by bringing it out of the shadows and onto new stages and wider audiences. Because we know that if we can bring Bluegrass to new folks\, those folks will come with us and support the bluegrass community.” \n“Loved having the guys in studio… great live performance…they’re the real deal” ! \n– Charlie Mattos producer/cohost Coffee\, Country & Cody \n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:The French Family Band
DESCRIPTION:Country music just sounds better when a family sings it. That’s where it all began: mothers\, fathers\, grandparents\, aunts\, uncles\, and cousins\, all huddled together\, picking and singing on a porch in the twilight. That’s why when The French Family launch into the bittersweet ache of a classic or the startling tenderness of one of their self-penned original songs\, the hairs on country music loving necks stand up\, and we instinctively––sometimes tearfully––recognize this father\, mother\, and son as the real thing. Touring over the last almost 20 years as Camille and Stuie\, the husband-and-wife duo became beloved in Australia. Stuie is a monster player with chops that sublimely meld the virtuosity and instinct of jazz with the clear tone and restraint of American hillbilly roots music. Camille holds a once-in-a-generation voice: somehow both crisply expressive and immeasurably rich and smooth\, she can sit back to soothe in a pocket before jumping out to thrill. Now based in Nashville and with the addition of middle son Sonny on stage\, The French Family is acclimating to life stateside––deep roots in tow. “I love being able to share our family music with people\,” says Camille. “I think people crave it. They come up and tell me how much they love seeing the love among our family and what we do––and I love being able to share that with everybody.” \nStuie agrees\, adding\, “We hope our music takes people back to a time when the essence of country music was twangy guitars\, honest songs\, and vocals that tear your heart out.” \nDoors open at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm. All tickets here are first come\, first served at the door. So if you are in the area\, plan to come down and enjoy live music with a pizza and a beer (or two!) \n\nArtist websiteFollow on FacebookFollow on Instagram

SUMMARY:The Tennessee Warblers
DESCRIPTION:A Nashville institution\, the Tennessee Warblers have been jamming folky grooves since 2014 with a rotating cast of pickin' pals culled from Music City's vibrant bluegrass and Grateful Dead community. \nJohn Beck and Adam Dalton met while performing together in various projects and bonded over the acoustic music of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. On a winter's eve\, they tried their hands at co-writing and the song "Restless" was born. Soon thereafter the Warblers took flight performing in and around Music City before starting what was to become a 5 year residency at Nashville's legendary Sutler Saloon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere the group honed their sound and was featured on the Travel Channel's Food Paradise. In 2016 they released their debut EP of which the Murfreesboro Pulse called "a solid debut peppered with well-played instrumental breaks\, and recommended for fans of Americana and Southern folk." \nThey stayed busy touring\, performing at festivals (Hoedown on the Harpeth Bluegrass Festival\, Nashville Predators' Craft Beer Festival\, East Nashville Beer Festival) and periodically orchestrated tributes to their heroes\, performing Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline and the Grateful Dead's Europe '72 albums in their entirety. \nAfter distilling some fresh songs\, they linked up with engineer Nathan Yarborough (The Mavericks\, Leanne Rimes\, Mastodon) to cut their debut record live in the warm wood walls of Madison\, TN's Bluegrass Compound. Seated together in a circle in the shotgun cabin hall\, they took turns calling tunes from their repertoire and let the tape roll. \nThe resulting record\, Small Town Songs\, was released in November 2022 to which Ana Lee of WMOT Roots Radio 89.5FM called\, "A really fun album. A lotta great covers. A lotta great originals." Edd Hurt of the Nashville Scene wrote\, "Small Town Songs makes me happy to know the Nashville bluegrass-Dead community is thriving." \nIn 2023 the group performed the record on their Small Towns Tour\, collaborated with Midnight North at the Touch of Brews Music Festival and of all things sang to Chuck Norris AND survived! \nThe band continues to serve up a fun mix of rootsy originals and cherry picked covers to all who'll lend an ear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:Station Inn Bluegrass Benefit Concert for Nashville’s Homeless
DESCRIPTION:A Beloved Nashville Bluegrass Holiday Tradition Returns to the Station Inn \nThis perennially sold-out event was hosted by Eddie and Martha Adcock\, but the recent pandemic put the project on hold for a few years. Thankfully\, the Station Inn and its manager Josh Ulbrich have graciously agreed to restart the tradition. A number of popular touring bluegrass artists have committed to donating live performances for the event. Health considerations will probably keep Eddie and Martha from attending in person. Still\, they are thrilled that the benefit will be happening once again\, and also very glad that Valerie Smith has agreed to produce the event in conjunction with Josh Ulbrich at the Station Inn. \nCash donations taken at the door (minimum $20 for admission) will be turned over to Room In The Inn\, a well-respected local homeless benefit charity\, as was done in past years. Guests are encouraged to bring toiletry items (toothpaste\, soap\, toothbrushes\, combs and brushes\, deodorant\, wipes\, etc.) which will also be distributed through Room In The Inn. \nhttps://www.roomintheinn.org\nStart off your 2023 holiday season the right way by enjoying top-notch live bluegrass music and supporting those in need at the same time! \nSponsored by Bell Buckle Records\, Bell Buckle Radio\, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike\, and The Station Inn!

SUMMARY:Shawn Lane & Richard Bennett
DESCRIPTION:Shawn is a three-time GRAMMY nominee and 28-time IBMA Award winner with Blue Highway.   Heralded as a vocalist and instrumentalist\, Lane is explosive on fiddle\, mandolin\, and guitar.  Shawn is also a respected songwriter\, and was nominated as 2015 IBMA Songwriter of the Year\, penning such iconic songs as The Game\, Sycamore Hollow\, and Tears Fell on Missouri.  Lane played in the bands of both Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunderand Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver prior to becoming a founding member of Blue Highway in 1994. \nRichard is a respected guitarist\, vocalist\, and songwriter who began his musical journey at the young age of seven. By age 15\, the East Tennessee native was touring with former Flatt & Scruggs fiddle player Benny Sims.  Gigs at Dollywood followed\, with his big break coming in the 1990’s as he joined the legendary J.D. Crowe & The New South.  Bennett appeared on Crowe’s 1995 album “Flashback\,” which was nominated for two GRAMMY Awards.  He went on to tour with greats like Bobby Osbourne\, Mike Auldridge\, and Jimmy Gaudreau.  Richard also released several solo and trio albums on Lonesome Day and Pinecastle Records.  His projects have garnered radio airplay across the musical genres of Bluegrass\, Folk and Americana. \nShawn and Richard started writing songs together two years ago.
