SUMMARY:Tim O'Brien
DESCRIPTION:Born in Wheeling\, West Virginia in 1954\, Grammy winning singer songwriter and multi- instrumentalist Tim O’Brien grew up singing in church and in school. After seeing Doc Watson on TV\, he became a lifelong devotee of old time and bluegrass music. Tim started touring nationally in 1978 with Colorado bluegrass band Hot Rize. His songs “Walk the Way the Wind Blows” and “Untold Stories” were bluegrass hits for Hot Rize\, and country hits for Kathy Mattea. Soon more artists like Nickel Creek\, Garth Brooks\, and The Dixie Chicks covered his songs. Over the years\, Tim has collaborated with his sister Mollie O’Brien\, songwriter Darrell Scott\, and noted old-time musician Dirk Powell\, as well as with Steve Earle\, Mark Knopfler\, Dan Auerbach and Sturgill Simpson. \nLiving in Nashville since 1996\, O’Brien’s skills on guitar\, mandolin\, fiddle\, and banjo make him an in-demand session player. A voracious reader who loves to cook\, he tours throughout the US and abroad\, most often with his wife Jan Fabricius on mandolin and vocals. The International Bluegrass Music Association awarded him song of the year in 2006 and named him best male vocalist in 1993 and 2006.  He was inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2013 and into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in 2022. \nO’Brien’s 2023 release “Cup of Sugar” featured songs about an angry bear\, a millionaire dog\, his neighbor\, and Walter Cronkite. Other notable recordings include the bluegrass Dylan covers of “Red on Blonde”\, the Celtic-Appalachian fusion of “The Crossing”\, and the Grammy winning folk of “Fiddler’s Green”. His duet recording “Real Time” with Darrell Scott is a cult favorite\, and he won a bluegrass Grammy as part of “The Earls of Leicester”. A set of 15 new originals co-written with Jan Fabricius and Tom Paxton\, “Paper Flowers” will be released in April. \n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:Marc Berger & Ride
DESCRIPTION:Marc’s life has been about pursuing twin passions: creating and recording his American roots songs\, and exploring remote areas of the desert and mountain West. After signing his first publishing contract while in law school\, he fronted rock bands and performed regularly in New York City clubs like CBGB\, Wetlands\, and The Knitting Factory. All through this period\, he’d find ways to get into the West\, picking up details from fellow wilderness junkies about off the beaten path locales and filing them away for future reference. On one of these trips\, he became intrigued by the cover of THE BIG IT\, a book of short stories by A.B. Guthrie he found on a revolving paperback rack in a Navajo reservation trading post. It got him thinking about using his travels to create a set of songs in the cultural tradition of writers like Guthrie and visual artists like John Ford and Frederick Remington. Marc and Co-Producer Mike Ricciardi now present RIDE\, ten cinematic recordings reflecting Marc’s romantic connection to the American West and exploring the value of its myths to contemporary culture. \nMarc has performed at Austin’s South by Southwest Music Festival and The Kerrville and Falcon Ridge Folk Festivals and has opened shows for Bob Dylan and other national acts. His song THE LAST ONE was a staple of Richie Havens’ concerts and has been quoted in the NY Times and featured on The CBS Evening News.

SUMMARY:The French Family Band
DESCRIPTION:Country music just sounds better when a family sings it. That’s where it all began: mothers\, fathers\, grandparents\, aunts\, uncles\, and cousins\, all huddled together\, picking and singing on a porch in the twilight. That’s why when The French Family launch into the bittersweet ache of a classic or the startling tenderness of one of their self-penned original songs\, the hairs on country music loving necks stand up\, and we instinctively––sometimes tearfully––recognize this father\, mother\, and son as the real thing. Touring over the last almost 20 years as Camille and Stuie\, the husband-and-wife duo became beloved in Australia. Stuie is a monster player with chops that sublimely meld the virtuosity and instinct of jazz with the clear tone and restraint of American hillbilly roots music. Camille holds a once-in-a-generation voice: somehow both crisply expressive and immeasurably rich and smooth\, she can sit back to soothe in a pocket before jumping out to thrill. Now based in Nashville and with the addition of middle son Sonny on stage\, The French Family is acclimating to life stateside––deep roots in tow. “I love being able to share our family music with people\,” says Camille. “I think people crave it. They come up and tell me how much they love seeing the love among our family and what we do––and I love being able to share that with everybody.” \nStuie agrees\, adding\, “We hope our music takes people back to a time when the essence of country music was twangy guitars\, honest songs\, and vocals that tear your heart out.” \nDoors open at 7pm. Show begins at 8pm. All tickets here are first come\, first served at the door. So if you are in the area\, plan to come down and enjoy live music with a pizza and a beer (or two!) \n\nArtist websiteFollow on FacebookFollow on Instagram

SUMMARY:Tray Wellington
DESCRIPTION:Growing up in western North Carolina’s Ashe County\, Trajan “Tray” Wellington heard a lot of music — and from the first time he heard the banjo as a young teen\, he was\, he says\, “hooked.” Even before he graduated from East Tennessee State University’s renowned Bluegrass\, Old-Time and Country program\, Wellington had earned acclaim as the banjo player with Cane Mill Road\, performing across the country and winning a 2019 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year award while the group took Momentum Band of the Year honors. \nA well-received\, independently released 2020 EP under his own name\, the creation of his Tray Wellington Band and signing with Mountain Home Music Company that same year marked Wellington’s decision to make his own path going forward. As he began releasing singles in advance of his full-length debut\, Black Banjo\, Wellington continued to garner attention\, leading banjo workshops at the prestigious Merlefest and Gray Fox festivals; performing on the IBMA’s 2020 World of Bluegrass Main Stage and acting as host for the Momentum Awards ceremony; gaining coverage in publications like No Depression\, The Bluegrass Situation and Folk Alley; and appearing on David Holt’s PBS NC series\, being interviewed by Rhiannon Giddens for a BBC documentary series and by W. Kamau Bell for his CNN series\, United Shades of America. Upon its release in May\, 2022\, Black Banjo earned a glowing review in the Wall Street Journal that concluded: “This is a record that breaks right through subgenre boundaries. If bluegrass is about spotlighting virtuosos\, here’s a new one people will be checking in on for some time to come.” \n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:Lonesome River Band
DESCRIPTION:Few bluegrass groups have been around for forty years\, and even fewer have been more popular\, more widely admired\, or more influential for as long as Mountain Home Music Company recording artists Lonesome River Band. By the early 1990s\, they were winning key awards and topping the charts\, and while members have come and gone\, the quintet’s reputation for crafting essential\, archetypal bluegrass has only grown with each passing year. \nNow\, the bluegrass powerhouse releases a new album\, Heyday\, surrounding four hit singles with a set of songs that serves both to introduce new members and to extend the group’s influential legacy still further. \nLeading off the project is the group’s first single — and first No. 1 — of 2022\, “Mary Ann Is A Pistol.” Sung by new member Adam Miller (mandolin)\, the song\, written by long-time Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famer Dennis Linde\, is a sly subversion of stereotypes first recorded over a quarter of a century ago and reclaimed from the record collection of bandleader and award-winning banjo player Sammy Shelor. \nMiller shares lead vocal duties with veteran mandolinist-turned-guitar player Jesse Smathers\, who led on last year’s “Cumberland River Shore” (a song suffused with the spirit and sound of the late and legendary John Hartford). The lineup is rounded out by Shelor\, iconic fiddle player Mike Hartgrove and new bassist Kameron Keller\, and blends to perfection the group’s signature “bluegrass with a rock ’n’ roll attitude” sound with fresh energy and new influences. \n“Heyday\,” the title track and next radio single\, is a wistful reminiscence cast in the voice of a small town that’s “still sleepy but…still alive”; featuring another lead from Miller and subtle\, sympathetic solos from Hartgrove and Smathers\, it underlines the collection’s strong emphasis on new songs. \nBanjo legend Jimmy Arnold’s retelling of “Jesse James” and Jim & Jesse’s homespun “Tell Her Lies and Feed Her Candy” are the only covers here\, while the rest offer vivid sketches encompassing wry looks at love (“Love Songs”)\, old-timey romps (“Come On Down From The Mountain Top”)\, stern apocalyptic warnings (“Gabriel’s Already Standing”) and\, of course\, plenty of heartbreak and ramblin’ (“Waitin’ on a Train\,” “Bye Bye Love\,” “Headed North”). Lonesome River Band may be reaching middle age\, but Heyday is here to say that\, in some ways\, they’re just getting started. \n“Heyday is a representation of the Lonesome River Band in transition from many years with Brandon Rickman and Barry Reed in the band to the introduction of Adam Miller and Kameron Keller as the newest members\,” says Shelor. “After 40 years in the business\, LRB is looking forward to many more years on the road bringing new music to our wonderful friends across the country. We hope you enjoy this collection!” \n\n \nArtist Website

SUMMARY:The Tennessee Warblers
DESCRIPTION:A Nashville institution\, the Tennessee Warblers have been jamming folky grooves since 2014 with a rotating cast of pickin' pals culled from Music City's vibrant bluegrass and Grateful Dead community. \nJohn Beck and Adam Dalton met while performing together in various projects and bonded over the acoustic music of Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. On a winter's eve\, they tried their hands at co-writing and the song "Restless" was born. Soon thereafter the Warblers took flight performing in and around Music City before starting what was to become a 5 year residency at Nashville's legendary Sutler Saloon. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere the group honed their sound and was featured on the Travel Channel's Food Paradise. In 2016 they released their debut EP of which the Murfreesboro Pulse called "a solid debut peppered with well-played instrumental breaks\, and recommended for fans of Americana and Southern folk." \nThey stayed busy touring\, performing at festivals (Hoedown on the Harpeth Bluegrass Festival\, Nashville Predators' Craft Beer Festival\, East Nashville Beer Festival) and periodically orchestrated tributes to their heroes\, performing Bob Dylan's Nashville Skyline and the Grateful Dead's Europe '72 albums in their entirety. \nAfter distilling some fresh songs\, they linked up with engineer Nathan Yarborough (The Mavericks\, Leanne Rimes\, Mastodon) to cut their debut record live in the warm wood walls of Madison\, TN's Bluegrass Compound. Seated together in a circle in the shotgun cabin hall\, they took turns calling tunes from their repertoire and let the tape roll. \nThe resulting record\, Small Town Songs\, was released in November 2022 to which Ana Lee of WMOT Roots Radio 89.5FM called\, "A really fun album. A lotta great covers. A lotta great originals." Edd Hurt of the Nashville Scene wrote\, "Small Town Songs makes me happy to know the Nashville bluegrass-Dead community is thriving." \nIn 2023 the group performed the record on their Small Towns Tour\, collaborated with Midnight North at the Touch of Brews Music Festival and of all things sang to Chuck Norris AND survived! \nThe band continues to serve up a fun mix of rootsy originals and cherry picked covers to all who'll lend an ear. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website

SUMMARY:The Fretliners
DESCRIPTION:It is rare for there to exist a defining moment that changes the trajectory of four lives at once. But\, clear as a lightning bolt in an open field\, so electric was the moment The Fretliners first played together around a single microphone in the Cloverlick banjo shop barn one fateful evening\, they knew they would be inseparable from that moment on. \nThe Fretliners (Tom Knowlton – guitar\, Sam Parks – mandolin\, Dan Andree – fiddle\, Taylor Shuck – bass) are a genuine and powerful bluegrass quartet recognized for their songwriting and undeniable chemistry. Their newfound camaraderie produces an energy that is as infectious on stage as it is on record. So much so that in the summer of 2023\, they won both band competitions at Telluride Bluegrass and Rockygrass Festivals—a feat that had only been accomplished once before. That September\, they released their debut eponymous album to acclaim and adoration. \nWith one eye on the rear-view\, inspired by that traditional high lonesome sound\, The Fretliners navigate a road less traveled into the peaks of Rocky Mountain original bluegrass. \n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Website

He is most influenced by 70’s J.D Crowe and The New South\, Tony Rice\, and Sam Bush. \nAs a recording artist\, Mike has released 3 bluegrass albums\, the second of which\, “Small Town” debuted on Billboard at # 2.   \nHis latest project\, “Fathers & Sons” has enjoyed three #1 hit singles\, with the album itself spending 13 months on the Bluegrass Unlimited Top 15 Albums chart. The new track\, “Uncommon Man” is beginning its climb onto airplay charts this summer! \nMike says:  \n“We bring a high energy show full of Chart-Topping bluegrass and fiddle tunes.  Tim White\, from the Song Of The Mountains television show calls us “Original Music with a Traditional Flavor”   \n “As a nationally recognized teacher of Bluegrass music\, I enjoy leading workshops that leave everyone happy with their improved playing.  I also head the IBMA Songwriters Mentorship Program and always enjoy making songwriting workshops fun and inspirational for folks.” \n“The band loves to jam and make friends\, wherever we go!” \nMike has been a player all of his days\, starting Suzuki violin lessons at the age of four.
